La Liga star Fernando Torres is set to exit Atletico Madrid at the end of the season. The 34-year old announced that he would leave his boyhood club this summer, amid earlier speculations that he was headed to China.
He has contributed to Coach Diego Simeone’s team in the last few years but he has struggled to replicate such this term, scoring only seven times in 34 games. Torres said it was not easy to reach the decision to end his stay at the club for a second time but then he added that it was the right move to make way for other players.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to confirm that this is my last season at the club. I felt I should let the fans know, as they have given me so much love and affection. Both the club and I knew that this moment was going to come,” he said.
The striker insists that he does not have a next destination in mind, having reached this conclusion only recently. He promised to listen to offers and make a choice. He said his relationship with his coach is “normal” and “professional.”
The player who is nearing the end of his footballing career is expected to pick where he can play for two or three years before hanging his boots. He has had an illustrious club career, and internationally as well, winning one World Cup and two European Championships with Spain.
