Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a target for Aston Villa according to the latest reports in the British media. Apart from Villa, fellow Premier League team Manchester United are also said to be interested in the former Arsenal and Southampton player.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, 28, has not been able to nail down a regular place in the starting XI at Liverpool and he could leave the club this summer. He has failed to play at least 800 minutes of Premier League football in each of the last two seasons to highlight his status as a fringe player at Liverpool. The England international made just nine Premier League starts during the recently concluded campaign.
Englishman Oxlade-Chamberlain has not played as much as he would have liked at Liverpool over the years due to injury problems and the starting XI selected by manager JurgenKlopp.
British media platform talkSPORT confirmed the interest of Aston Villa and Manchester United in Oxlade-Chamberlain with the two Premier League teams keen to strengthen their midfield options this summer.
Aston Villa have already boosted their midfield options with the permanent signing of Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho and the free transfer signing of French international Boubacar Kamara as part of the £50m spent on new players at the club this summer till date. Villa manager Steven Gerrard could raid his former club to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain if the Englishman is available for a small fee of around £10m. Gerrard is a known admirer of Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Manchester United would also be interested in doing a deal for the Liverpool player if the fee is low as revealed earlier.
Aston Villa and Manchester United are not the only Premier League teams interested in signing Oxlade-Chamberlain from Liverpool as West Ham United are also keen on signing the player. For now, the next destination of the player is unknown and he could still end up at Liverpool since he still has a contract at the club.
